Aspirants

Holistic Approach to Recreational Ballet

Focusing largely on Classical ballet technique and building on the foundations laid by the previous levels to increase the repertoire of steps, the class is a recreational ballet class for those children wanting to experience a ballet class once a week.

There is an element of creative movement within the program, to allow for freedom of expression and children’s own ability to think creatively. Along with set dances, the children will also have opportunities to develop their own choreographic skills within the class!

Kinderballet 'Aspirants' classes

The Aspirants program is designed for primary school children over the age of 7 who have a passion for ballet and dance.

This recreational program focuses primarily on ballet while incorporating elements of lyrical movement and jazz.

Held once a week, the program aims to foster the development of dance skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Holistic Approach to Recreational Ballet

Our Aspirants program helps children learn foundational classical ballet technique, build performance abilities, and explore personal expression through the creation of their own compositions. The year’s journey concludes with an end-of-year performance for family and friends, followed by an assessment with an external assessor.

This provides valuable written feedback, a sense of accomplishment, and a clear marker of progress as they prepare to advance to the next level.

The Five Levels of Aspirants

Aspirants consists of five levels, each building upon the previous one to support the child’s growth as both a dancer and an individual.

Aspirants 1: 7-8 years

This well-rounded program offers a great balance of foundational ballet technique through barre work and centre practice, while also integrating more expressive and dynamic styles with lyrical movement and jazz steps.

By having both individual and group dance projects, the students are encouraged to explore creativity and teamwork, which is a crucial aspect of dance development. The end-of-year performance is a highlight for both the students and their families, providing a tangible goal and sense of achievement.

Aspirants 2: 8 - 9 years

At this level, ballet technique continues to advance, with extended work at the barre. Centre work progresses further, introducing children to new movements, including turning steps. Jazz and lyrical remain integral to the program, alongside various dances and set sequences.

Aspirants 3 & 4: 9 -10 & 10-11 years

At this level, ballet technique continues to develop with an increased focus on barre work and more advanced centre exercises.

Students are introduced to new movements, including turning steps, as their technical foundation grows. Jazz and lyrical styles remain key components of the program, complemented by a variety of dances and set sequences.

Both individual and group dance projects encourage creativity and foster teamwork—an essential part of every dancer’s development.

The end-of-year performance serves as a major highlight, offering students a rewarding goal and a chance to celebrate their progress with family and friends.

Aspirants 5: 11 - 12 years

This is the final level of the Aspirant program, culminating in more advanced exercises, including strengthening work to prepare for pointe, should students choose to continue.

Along with refining their ballet skills, students will present a six-minute story ballet as part of their final performance, alongside other dances.

While remaining a once-a-week recreational class, it is expected that by this level, students will have developed a foundational repertoire of steps, personal expression, and performance skills.
