Frequently Asked Questions

How do we start?

All of our classes start off with a trial, the younger classes ('Cherubs' and 'Mummy & Me') start off with a paid three-week trial (for $50) and our older classes start off with a single trial class, which you only pay for if you decide to continue after the trial.

How much are the classes?

Our Cherubs and Mummy & Me classes are *usually $18 (for a 30 minute class), Tots and Next Steps $21 (for a 45 minute class) and Aspirants $24 (for a 60 minute class). There is also an $10 per term (per family) fee for accident insurance.
(I say *usually as some classes attract an extra $1 or 2 due to the higher costs of some venues.)

What do they wear?

Pretty much whatever they like, whatever makes them happy and they feel comfortable in! We're all about encouraging individuality rather than selling expensive uniforms.
Generally we recommend a fairy dress or a favorite dress-up, dance wear if you have, or even just a t-shirt and shorts!

What ages is it for?

Our youngest classes (Cherubs) are aimed at children just 18 months old and we go all the way up to our Aspirants classes which currently will take you all the way up to 12 years old (Aspirants 4).

Do parents stay in the room?

Generally no, as the aim of our classes is to educate rather than entertain. There are exceptions though - our younger classes (18 months to 3½ years) have a parent (or carer) participate with their child in class. Parents would usually not be in the room for our older classes unless there was a serious medical condition, assistance required or the child just needed a little extra comfort or support.
Kinderballet has an 'Open Door Policy' which ensures that your child is visible to you throughout the class, either via a window/viewing area or by leaving the door to the studio open so that you can check in during class.

Is there an end of year concert?

All classes have a low-key event at the end of the year known as Presentation Day.
It's usually held in the same venue as regular classes, during regular class time. An all-inclusive Presentation Day fee covers a medal and tutu. There are no ticket sales or rehearsals to pay for.
In 2024, this was $35 for Cherubs classes, $68 for Mummy & Me and Tots classes and $78 for Next Steps classes. Aspirants classes work quite differently, as there is a performance as well as an assessment class, a couple of different costumes and a trophy instead of a medal.

Is Kinderballet for boys?

Our programs are not gender-specific, but many elements may be considered to be aimed more at girls. When we do have boys in our classes, our teachers are able to adapt the class to help accommodate them.

Can we start mid-term?

You can start Kinderballet at almost anytime during the year, except: In the very last week of any term - this is because its 'Open Day' (or 'Watching Day') where family and friends can come along to see the class; and in the last 4 weeks of the year - as the children are preparing for their end of year event - 'Presentation Day'

What if we miss a class?

If a student misses their regular class then they may be able to attend an alternate (makeup) class. The makeup class must be arranged with Kinderballet at least 24 hours before the proposed makeup class, so that the student’s name, medical details and parent’s contact details can be added to the roll. Are the teachers qualified?

Kinderballet teachers are easily the most highly qualified in the pre-school ballet industry!
We only accept experienced and qualified ballet teachers, who we train to our highest standards in-house. Only after passing an assessment are they allowed to take classes themselves. Teachers attend further training sessions throughout the year and are periodically re-assessed to ensure our students are receiving the very best classes preschool ballet classes possible!

What is 'Accident Insurance'?

Kinderballet provides Accident Insurance cover to *all of our students as well as 'Mum' (or the person assisting the student) in our 'Cherubs' and 'Mummy & Me classes'.
(*All students registered and who do not have overdue fees)
All enrolled students will be charged $10 per term (Kinderballet covers the cost of the accident insurance for all those trialling). The Accident Insurance fee is only charged once per family per term, so if you have multiple students enrolled with us or if your children do multiple classes then you only pay the fee once per term.

Is 'Mummy and Me' just for 'Mummy'?

No. It's only called "Mummy and Me" because its usually 'Mum' that participates. *Any responsible adult can accompany their child in class, we have Mums, Dads, Grandmas and Granddads, aunties, nannies, family friends...
(*Please note that only ONE adult may assist at any one time.)

Is there any 'Family Discount'?

In order to make ballet more affordable for parents we offer a family discount - applicable to families with more than one child attending Kinderballet classes (when fees are paid on time). The discount is 10% off the term fees (and/or Cherubs/Mummy & me Trial fees) for subsequent children - so the the child (with the highest fees) will be charged the regular price and other children (in the same immediate family) will be charged their normal fee, less 10%.

Why choose Kinderballet?

We know there are many alternatives these days, but none of them even come close to what you will experience at Kinderballet. In 2006 we established the pre-school ballet category in Australia, because of our specialization in what was a very challenging age group, and thus ignored by the greater dance community.

Through perseverance, we honed our programs over and over (a process still intrinsic to our program development today) to add greater value to our programs and make them more engaging.

Today, our aims go far beyond where we started, "An introduction to Classical Ballet" to encompass so many other aspects, crucial to child development, such as physiology, social skills and emotional well being.

Dance schools and other providers will copy our messaging, and even our name, but they can never duplicate the success of our programs and the benefits they provide to children!
