Around 3½ years: At this age the main concern is how they would go without you with them in class to assist them, if they are more confident and do cope well without yon then you might consider the older age group (3½-5 years), if not the we would suggest the younger group (2-3½ years). Always err on the side of caution, it is always better to try the younger class and be moved up quickly into the older class than to drop back into the younger group. Going up gives on a sense of accomplishment, whereas dropping back gives a sense of failure.

Around 5 years: If they are not yet at primary school then select the younger age group (3½-5 years), otherwise the older (5-7 years)

Around 7 years: If they are in the first two years of primary school then select the younger age group (5-7 years), otherwise the older (7-12 years)
